Young Advocate We are a social initiative that is seeking people interested in advocacy opportunities this spring as well as into the summer. We have been making strides around Cincinnati for over 6 months now, and with help, we hope our strides can turn into leaps.
In the fall, we work as part of the Good Food Coalition on a policy initiative called the Good Food Purchasing Program (GFPP). After hard work, dedication and perseverance, we finally got the Cincinnati Public School Board to pass a resolution to write and adapt the GFPP as a food purchasing policy for the CPS District.
Every quarter, we evaluate what we have achieved and what is still left to improve around our city, which brings us to you. For this quarter, we have two major goals-- to stop bullying in schools and afterschool programs by creating \"No Bully Zones\" and to keep our streets safe by raising awareness about the perils of texting and driving and creating \"No TXT Zones\" across Cincinnati and in neighboring communities.
For both of these goals, we have created resolutions for city councils and townships to adopt that we need your help to spread far and wide. We had success in moving forward with the GFPP because we had so many members of the community invested in that initiative, and we believe we can create the same momentum around our \"No Bully Zone\" and \"No TXT Zone\" initiatives with the help of advocates.
Duties will include:
-Attending township meetings that best fit one's schedule to present resolutions to township boards -Hanging posters around Cincinnati and other targeted areas, -Advocating for these initiatives, -Contributing ideas to build continued momentum, -Recruiting more advocates!
We will supply the resolutions, the posters, and guidance throughout the process. This is a great way to get hands on experience in community outreach and grassroots change.Grassroots, Advocacy, Social Justice Associated topics: client service, community service, meter reader, parking, registrar, sale, service, social work, welfare, youth
